WAEC Indefinitely Postpones West African Senior School Certificate Examination over Coronavirus
Latest news reaching us today, is that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Nigeria has just announced that they will postpone the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, 2020, until further notice.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) was earlier scheduled to start on the 6th of April, 2020.
Most candidates have been asking us When Will 2020 Waec Exam Starts? The examination is scheduled to start on 6th April, 2020. We also recommend they go to the Waec timetable and check it for themselves. It’s quite sad that this is happening, but it’s inevitable.
According to an official statement released by the council’s Head of National Office in Nigeria, Patrick Areghan, on Friday, the 20th of March, 2020. Patrick Areghan disclosed that the decision to postpone the WAEC 2020 examination was as a result of the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the “serious implications” it has for the conduct of the WASSCE for school candidates.
He said and we quote below:
“This decision reached by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) authorities, is a demonstration of the organisation’s concern and support for the various protocols that are currently being put in place by the Federal and State Governments of Nigeria and the governments of the other member countries t0 check the spread of the disease and contain it till the cure is found.”
So far, Major states in Nigeria have shutdown all social gatherings and religious gatherings to contain the wide-spread of this virus. States like Lagos state, Rivers state, Nasawara, Ekiti state, etc have all shut down their primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.
